"The Kalarthri" (The Way to Freedom, Book 1), is a fantasy about a young girl, Kalena, who is born into a feudal society where she, as second born, is automatically a servant. Neither I, nor Kalena, had any idea of what the future held for her. I braced myself in case I was in for a long, sad tale full of abuse and violence. H.M. Clarke instead delivered a tale that was sugar and spice, where the spice was a welcome accent. The story is highly imaginative, flows well, and kept me interested from beginning to end.An imaginative tale where Kalena grows in many ways, I highly recommend this book for a parent-child read. You know, where you, and your child, read the same book at the same time, so you can talk about it? Or how about for a family read where you take turns reading aloud?

The Kalarthri The Way to Freedom Series Book 1 eBook H M Clarke Reviews
Ten-year-old Kalena is taken from her family to serve the empire. The second born of all families is indentured for a period of time. This is a great story for middle school on up and the world is quite interesting.
It was good, the characters nicely done. World building was good. It was just a little off for me, but that may have been my mood at the time so I'll reread it later to see.
Or first born sons. Imagine being a ten year old girl taken from your parents with only your doll to protect you. Imagine hearing the thoughts of adults. Imagine learning at that age that you will be paired with a flying lizard (Dragon?). Now imagine.....loving every minute of it!
I was given this book free in exchange for my honest opinion. My pleasure! I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
While I really enjoyed the story, it was hard to read in spots due to missing words and words with incorrect spellings. It made me pause a few times trying to figure out what the author meant.
However, the story was a lot of fun! I felt so sorry for our main girl, Kalena in the beginning. But oh so jealous by the end! I'm curious as to whether or not she will continue on the path she's on, or end up playing her hand.
The Kalarthri The Way to Freedom Book One by H. M. Clarke is a very good fantasy book which I found hard to put down. It was full of adventure and action. This book is a YA novel but good for all ages.
The author developed a storyline which was both believable and realistic. It never wondered off into something which did not make sense. I found it easy to follow and get into the story.
H. M. Clarke's characters made the story. They were very easy to identify with. This made for good reading and adventure.
I liked The Kalarthri by H. M. Clarke and recommend this book to all readers.
A story that paced well, though the grammar, punctuation and word building could use some work. The ending felt hurried with no thought to plot structure. Characters interesting though too early to see any growth. Will be interesting to see how the story line grows over the next episodes.Thank you for your time and effort .
I really enjoyed this book! The story was interesting and I had trouble putting it down. The pacing was excellent. The author could use an editor, there were a few minor issues where a word was likely missing from the sentence because it didn't make a lot of sense. Not frequent, though. I liked the main character, but I'm not real sure if the author has been around a lot of ten yr old girls. At the beginning of the book, she acted more like a 6 yr old, and then end she was acting closer to 16. But less than a year had passed. Quibbles, really. The book didn't quite end in a cliffhanger, but it was pretty close. Very little was resolved and it felt like it just .... stopped. Overall, I would probably consider reading the next book, but I'll have to read the reviews.
